Online Classes at Gaya Immersion
Yin & Yang Yoga blends two styles of yoga into one practice – bringing together the benefits of passively holding yoga poses with more dynamic sequences and standing postures.
All levels welcome!
Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. While Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward.
When these terms are applied to yoga, Yin Yoga is a slower practice where poses are passively held for longer, working on the deep, dense (Yin) connective tissues and joints in the body. Yang Yoga, in contrast, refers to a more active practice, working on the (Yang) muscles and blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility.

This online classes will follow the 5 Elements approach of Chinese Medicine, where we will explore one or more Element per class, clearing blockages in the associated energy channels (meridians) to allow the energy to move freely throughout the body, preventing stagnation and disease, and increasing vitality. Other benefits of this practice are calming and balancing the mind and body, reducing stress and anxiety, improving flexibility and circulation.
We will use some props during the class, such as: cushions, bolsters, blocks and straps.
You can use things you have at home: bath towels rolled up together for bolsters, stack of books for blocks, a couple of pillows for cushions and scarfs/belts for straps.
